I first heard of detectors around 1966. I saw an ad in an outdoor magazine called ARGOSY.
It wasn't until 1971 that I finally got my first oportunity to purchase my first unit. It was a Jetco Treasure Hawk. It was the BFO type(beat frequency oscillator) Though I never found one single coin with it, I was searching an old abandoned home when I recieved a weak signal over top the pantry cupboard which was built into the wall. At first I thought it was a pipe but I then recalled that the house was without wiring or plumbing. I had to tear out the trim around the top of the shelving. i reached into the space there and grabbed onto what felt like a piece of pipe. As I pulled it out and was ready to throw it out the window I caught sight of what turned out to be an old flintlock pistol!! After that I was suddenly addicted for life!!
